The onset of substance use is occurring at a younger age! This workshop focuses on outpatient approaches for working with adolescents with a substance abuse disorder, whether use, abuse, or dependency. Strategies for creating trust and open dialogue will be covered. Therapeutic approaches for outpatient treatment will be highlighted. Bring your own examples of challenging behaviors and situations for discussion.
Paula V. Atwood is the Vice President, Staffing and Special Projects at Beech Brook of Northeast Ohio. In this position, Ms. Atwood is responsible for the Employer of Choice Initiative, Staff Recruitment and Human Resources. Presently, Paula supervises the Director of the AOD services and she ensures for compliance with ODADAS rules and regulations, ADAMHS Board contract requirements, applicable Joint Commission Standards and the financial outcomes. For almost a two year time period, Paula served as the Clinical Director for AOD services, overseeing and supervising the AOD program staff and screening, assessment, and treatment services.

Paula formerly served as the Vice President, Community-Based Services Cluster, with administrative responsibility for the delivery of quality care mental health, social services, and educational services to children, adolescents and their families. The programs included were the Outpatient, School-Based, Family Preservation, Family Health and Early Childhood programs. Ms. Atwood has been at Beech Brook in various administrative positions since 1999.

Ms. Atwood has over 41 years of experience in administration, management, and direct care in the social service, mental health, child welfare, and substance abuse/chemical dependency field. She is a graduate of the School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University and the Executive Masters in Business Administration program at Baldwin-Wallace College. She is a Licensed Independent Social Worker- Supervisor and a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor – Clinical Supervisor.
