In partnership with the BWC, OPA is rolling out a 24-hour program for certification as a BWC provider. This workshop, a module of this program, will focus on specific training to perform independent evaluations as a BWC disability evaluation panel member, based on the most recent Disability Evaluator Panel (DEP) manual revision. The workshop will also include specific training on doing presurgical evaluations on injured workers who are candidates for lumbar fusion or spinal cord stimulators (both will be mandated by the BWC beginning in 2017). The BWC will be requiring continuing education for their DEP evaluators, and this workshop will meet their requirements.
- Become familiar with the BWC’s 2016 revision of the disability evaluator panel manual
- Become knowledgeable and competent with the specific requirements of BWC independent evaluations
- Become knowledgeable and competent with the process of psychological evaluations for fusion surgery and spinal cord stimulator trials for injured workers
OPA is offering this training as one of several workshops to prepare psychologists to become certified early intervention providers for the Bureau of Workers Compensation. OPA cannot guarantee that you will be accepted by BWC to provide services, however, documentation of this training will be one of the criteria used by BWC.
We are particularly interested in training psychologists who have a background in short term psychotherapy in health care settings. However, any psychologist willing to study, train, practice, and consult is welcome. We want to have a robust list of qualified Ohio psychologists to make this work an effective part of the services that will be offered to injured workers. If you have questions about participation, please contact David P. Schwartz, PhD, Chairperson email@example.com
