Event Description
This seminar will cover how the following factors create psychological stress in patients which could lead to inflammation and chronic illness: 1) Adverse Childhood Experiences (from the ACE Study), 2) Genetics, 3) Socio-economic and environmental influences, 4) Poor diet and exercise; 5) Insomnia; 6) PTSD; 7) Various addictions; 8) Poor quality relationships; 9) Isolation; 10) Major depressive disorder; and 11) Anxiety Researchers have noticed the connection between depression and inflammation which ultimately leads to chronic illness and disease. Relaxation and stress reduction techniques like meditation and yoga can help restore physiological and psychological well-balance. Integrating the knowledge of psychology and medicine in this course, psychologists and other behavioral therapists will learn how inflammation is driven by the immune system and how psychological treatments can reduce inflammation, improve immune response, and lower the risk for disabling physical and mental disorders. The immune system is negatively impacted by chronic dysregulation of the H-P-A Axis aka psychological stress. In these ways, this course addresses the psychological aspects of inflammation which could lead to incidence of chronic illness.
