Event Description
This presentation will discuss the neurobiology of the brain in addiction and the disease concept as well as discuss the current treatment modalities and the rationale behind them. Objectives: - Understand the basic areas of the brain involved in addiction *Recognize where drugs of abuse work in the brain *Understand the role of the frontal cortex in addiction -Understand the basic concept of neurotransmitters, especially as they pertain to addiction *Identify the roles of dopamine and glutamate in addiction -Identify the different modalities of treatment for addiction *Understand the role of behavioral vs. medication assisted treatment -Learn and apply the hierarchy of treatment in addiction as related to co-morbidities Presenter- Nicole T.
