About OPA

Founded in 1949, the Ohio Psychological Association (OPA) is currently the seventh largest state psychological association. OPA was the first state psychological association to have a paid staff person to direct our advocacy, marketing and educational work. The professional staff model was quickly copied around the country taking organized psychology to a new level of effectiveness and member service. OPA staff has always been a major part of our strength and success as an association. We have received national honors as the best state psychological association twice, best graduate student group twice and best diversity program once.

OPA serves its members by giving them consistent effort that advances the mission of the association. We offer access to the highest quality educational programs with the latest data on the science and practice of psychology. We advocate for stronger regulation of insurance companies who limit access to treatment, create bureaucracies that syphon off money from healthcare and delay payment for services that have been provided.

We serve the public with a variety of educational programs on health, wellness and the mind-body connection, and with online resources, including a psychologist referral program. We serve the public by recognizing businesses that are psychologically healthy and identifying best practices for a better work environment.

This section of our site has information about OPA's Board and staff; our goals; our history; educational opportunities; mandatory continuing education services and requirements; our advocacy work at the Federal and state level; how find a psychologist; career opportunities for psychologists; and, so much more.
