Event Description

(Hope Squad: a peer-to-peer, school-based program aimed at improving help-seeking, neutralizing stigma, and saving lives). Speaker: Jennifer Wright Berryman, Ph.D. Objectives: By attending this presentation, attendees will be able to 1. Identify the key evidence-based components of addressing suicide through prevention, intervention and postvention. 2. Articulate the Hope Squad program model and role in suicide prevention in schools and other settings. 3. Define the role of a psychologist in the spectrum of activities and events related to a suicide prevention, intervention and postvention. 4. Conceptualize a framework of suicide prevention for your own practice. Dr. Jennifer Wright-Berryman is a suicidologist and an assistant professor of social work at the University of Cincinnati, with over 20 years of clinical experience, community-based activism, and research in mental health and suicide. Dr. Wright-Berryman is the lead researcher for Hope Squad, a nationally implemented, peer-to-peer, school-based, suicide prevention program, and is a member of the Cincinnati team with Grant Us Hope that is rolling out Hope Squads in over 20 schools. Dr. Wright-Berryman is also currently developing a conceptual framework and writing a book about addressing emotional pain as suicide prevention from a community action approach.
