Event Description

The 2nd Act Industry refers to any person or service designed to help displaced workers with what is called the “mid-life do-over.” Such services can be offered by unlicensed and un-credentialed people seeking a quick buck. The providers use mental health sounding titles like “career navigators” and “career coaches.” This workshop will bring participants up to speed on just how many such “services” are offered to often unwitting and middle-aged displaced workers, the many ethical problems with these services, and how licensed professionals can appropriately counter this movement with legitimate services. This program will appeal to non-medical mental health practitioners including counselors, social workers, and psychologists. Elliott Ingersoll is professor and chair of Counseling, Adult Learning & Educational Administration. He is licensed as a psychologist and a clinical counselor in Ohio. He has authored/co-authored 8 books and over 30 articles and book chapters. His areas of expertise include psychopharmacology, psychopathology and helping clients with spiritual and religious issues. He has also worked with opioid dependence, trauma, and organizational consulting. His current research focuses on drug-assisted psychotherapy.
