Event Description

This engaging program is designed to educate interested students and mental health professionals in the history of addiction, particularly the current Opioid Epidemic. We will address the development of heroin and opioids, the difference between use, abuse, and addiction, and the conflict between the moral and medical models of addiction. Several treatment options will be covered including: Alcohol and Narcotics Anonymous, Inpatient Programs, and Intensive Outpatient Program. Focus will be placed on the importance of ethical treatment of those suffering from addiction as we discuss the alarming national and local statistics of drug abuse in our society today. This program will be of interest to marriage and family therapists, counselors, psychologists, social workers, and anyone who works with populations affected by addiction and substance abuse. Douglas J. Boose has a Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University.
