Today’s health news is heavy on advice about heart health, skin health and even gut health, however mainstream media does not often talk about sexual health. Is it any wonder that clients showing up in your practice are often “at their wits end”, coming to you as a “last resort” or are feeling “broken”? Providing these clients with exceptional care is certainly your goal, however what if you could go beyond that goal and provide optimal care for mind, body and soul. This mini-workshop is designed to provide insight into how to use the biopsychosocial approach to sexual health issues, in tandem with assessing general health and lifestyle factors that may be contributing to sexual health issues. Practitioners will gain knowledge on how to use the fundamental building blocks of Functional Medicine, resulting in better outcomes for clients. This program is designed for social workers, counselors, marriage family therapists and other behavioral health practitioners. Valerie Padd, RN, BSN, has chosen a lifetime career as a clinical sexual health counselor and nurse educator. After working in several diverse specialties of medicine, she has found her passion in the area of intimacy health. She serves men and women who struggle with matters related to intimacy and sexual health. Valerie believes that intimacy and sexuality form an integral and cherished part of people’s lives, and is vital to a healthy relationship. Beyond her academic education from the University of Central Florida, she sought advanced training in the field of sexual health at the University of Michigan, and later founded the Center for Intimacy Health. She is a member of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) and is currently in supervision working towards national certification as a sexual health counselor. Grounded in the functional/integrative medicine model of seeking root causes for distressing symptoms, she uses her medical background to identify general health issues that may be affecting intimacy health. With that model, she can help clients resolve their sexual health concerns and work towards optimal health in all aspects of their lives. Valerie works in tandem with mental health providers, healthcare practitioners, and ancillary counselors to provide clients a team approach towards healthy outcomes in mind, body and spirit. She welcomes clients of all ages, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and gender identity. She enjoys life to the fullest and works to serve others. She treasures her time with family and friends and enthusiastically dedicates volunteer time with Compassion International and the Emergency Assistance Center.
