Event Description
Ethical violations are not typically due to a professional forgetting or purposely ignoring “the rules.” Instead many ethical breaches occur because a professional stepped onto a slippery slope that led to the violation. In this workshop we will look at situations that can unintentionally lead to violations, and explore tools to avoid or minimize risk, with a focus on good intentions, professional time mismanagement, and blurred boundaries. Appropriate for all levels of social service professionals. Presenter: Stacy Simera Stacy Simera, MSSA, LISW-S, was named the "Social Worker of the Year" for Ohio in 2014 by the Ohio chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. She is chair of the sleep committee for the Ohio Adolescent Health Partnership and has presented on the topic of sleep at various professional conferences including 2013 Ohio NASW Conference, 2013 Ohio Public Health Combined Conference, 2013 All-Ohio Institute on Community Psychiatry Conference, and the 2012 NASW National Convention in DC and was cited in an editorial: “Sleepless in America: School Start Times” in the British journal Education and Health. Stacy serves as Health Policy Director for the Ohio chapter of the national non-profit Start School Later, serves on the leadership committee of the Ohio NASW Social Work Advocacy Group, provides psychotherapy at Gary Robinson and Associates in Kent, is an adjunct instructor at Stark State College, conducts workshops for the Ohio Child Welfare Training Program, and facilitates a psycho-educational group on managing depression at the Oak Clinic for Multiple Sclerosis.
