Are You a Social Justice Ally?
OPA calls on psychologists to proactively and consciously look to reduce implicit and explicit bias within themselves, as well as within their communities and workplaces. OPA asks that all mental health professionals actively and constantly pursue culturally responsive training to understand the impact of social injustices towards marginalized communities.
Past, present and future… OPA strives to be an ally by providing engagement opportunities that propel mental health professionals to act… to speak up… to become active allies themselves. In addition to the many resources below, an overview of OPA’s social justice journey has been included. Lessons learned along the way have helped to shape many of the initiatives currently underway, and we acknowledge that there is still much work to do.
Are you ready to be an active ally? Check out the “OPA Committee/Task Force Social Justice Initiatives” section below. All OPA committees and task forces are charged to contribute to meeting the three main goals set forth in our Strategic Plan, one of which is to “Ally with Communities and Systems.”
Do you see an initiative that interests you? Do you have an idea for a new initiative?
Call OPA at 614.224.0034 – and join us an ally!
Additional ally resources to share with clients have also been assembled. Click on the button to the right to access a list of movies, books, articles, podcasts, social media accounts, etc. that aim to educate the public on social justice issues, foster self-reflection and hard discussions, as well as encourage individuals to become active allies.
Many of the resources on this page have been shared by OPA leaders, members and valued partners. Please keep in mind, new ally materials are being released at a rapid pace. OPA will make every effort to update this page as new resources become available.
